At The Altruist, we are dedicated to implementing eco-friendly practices across our operations. Our commitment to sustainability drives us to continually seek and adopt innovative solutions that reduce our environmental footprint. Here are some of the key initiatives we have undertaken:

1.Promoting Clean Transportation

We have installed EV charging points at our hotels to support the use of electric vehicles. By providing convenient charging facilities, we encourage our guests and staff to opt for cleaner transportation options. Additionally, our company fleet includes electric vehicles, further reducing our carbon emissions.

2.Ensuring Sustainable Water Management

Our sewage and water treatment plants are designed to treat and recycle water efficiently. By implementing these systems, we minimize wastewater discharge and ensure that our operations have a minimal impact on local water resources. This commitment to sustainable water management helps us conserve this precious resource and protect the environment.

3.Smart Energy Use

We have installed sensors in corridors to optimize electricity usage. These sensors automatically turn off lights when no movement is detected, significantly reducing energy consumption. This smart approach to energy use not only cuts costs but also reduces our overall carbon footprint.

4.Conserving Water with Smart Technology

Our sinks are equipped with sensors that regulate water flow and reduce water pressure. These sensors help save water by ensuring that it is only used when necessary. This technology is a simple yet effective way to conserve water and promote sustainability.

5.Reducing Paper Waste

To minimize paper usage, we provide digital invoices to our customers. Additionally, we collect ID proofs digitally, further reducing our reliance on paper. This shift to digital documentation not only saves trees but also enhances efficiency and convenience for our customers.

6.Eco-Friendly Waste Management

We use biodegradable and bio-composite garbage bags in our operations. These bags decompose naturally, reducing the amount of plastic waste that ends up in landfills. By choosing eco-friendly alternatives, we contribute to a cleaner environment.

7.Reducing Water Waste

In an effort to prevent water waste, we provide 1/2-liter water bottles instead of the standard 1-liter bottles. This smaller size ensures that less water is wasted, as guests are more likely to consume the entire bottle. This simple change helps conserve water and reduce plastic waste.

Join Us in Our Journey Towards Sustainability

At The Altruist, our eco-friendly practices are just the beginning. We continually strive to find new ways to enhance our sustainability efforts and reduce our environmental impact. We invite you to join us on this journey towards a greener, more sustainable future. Our Commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

At Altruist, we are deeply committed to the social and economic development of the communities in which we operate. Our CSR initiatives are designed to create a better, more sustainable way of life, particularly for the weaker sections of society. Here’s how we are making a difference:

I Hate Polythene

Tri-City Eco Warriors – A Humble Attempt to Reduce Plastic Footprint on Mother Earth.

The Beginning

“Charity begins at home,” as the saying goes. Embracing this spirit, a group of socially conscious residents of Suncity Parikrama society in Panchkula, led by Mrs. Puja Aggarwal, recognized the growing menace of plastic pollution. The threat posed by single-use polythene has reached alarming levels. If not addressed urgently, this menace will push our already ailing planet towards an untimely demise. We bear the responsibility for this irretrievable situation, and future generations will suffer as Earth becomes uninhabitable.

With a vision to liberate ourselves from the self-inflicted agony of plastic pollution, we initiated a campaign on 22nd March 2023, coinciding with the start of the Hindu New Year.

Hazards of Single-Use Polythene (SUP)

1. Takes over 400 years to decompose.

2. Emits micro and nano particles into the air, soil, and water during decomposition.

3. Enters the human food chain through plants, animals, water, and air, spreading cancer.

4. Chokes sewer drains, rivers, and seas, creating mounds of cancerous garbage around cities.

5. Affects environments from Mount Everest to the Marina Trench, impacting both hills and marine life.

Strategy

We adopt a multi-pronged approach to eradicate this disease from Earth.

Demand Reduction

Remove/Refuse: Reduce demand by encouraging buyers to refuse plastic.

Reduce/Replace: Provide alternatives to vendors.

Reuse: Promote the use of reusable, eco-friendly bags.

Recycle: Segregate waste to retrieve recyclable materials from garbage.

Supply Reduction

Collaborate with law enforcement agencies to impose punitive measures against traders supplying plastic bags in the market.

Initiatives and Actions Taken So Far

Group Housing Societies: Covered more than 25 societies.

Parks: Held informal talks with morning walkers, yoga groups, etc.

Temples: Conveyed the message through priests.

Schools: Addressed 150-200 students at a time, assigning project work.

Markets: Created awareness in local markets to use alternate options to polythene by providing them with compostable bio bags and cloth bags.

Weekly Mandis: Regular visits to spread awareness.

Door-to-Door Campaigning: Small groups of 2-3 ladies engaging with residents.

Distribution of Eco-Friendly Bags: Free/subsidized cloth/jute bags.

Opening Vikalp Stores: Providing eco-friendly reusable bags on a returnable basis against a security deposit of Rs 10.

Biodegradable Bags: Ensuring availability to vendors at factory rates on a no-profit basis.

Role Models: Promoting eco-conscious role models through video clips and posters.

Engaging Children: Organizing playful competitions, drawings, posters, and small speeches.

Nukkad Natak: Performing Street plays within societies.

Mass Leaders: Conveying the message through leaders with large followings.

General Modus Operandi in Actions/Interactions

Show alternatives such as cloth/jute bags and net pouches.

Encourage oath-taking by all participants to commit to reducing plastic use.

The Caravan at Present

What began as a small initiative is now becoming a mass movement. Our strength has rapidly increased to over 100 members with around 500 direct and indirect supporters. Join us in our mission to say, “I Hate Polythene,” and make a tangible difference in our community and beyond.

Health and Medical Outreach

We understand the importance of healthcare in building strong communities. Through our medical initiatives, we have reached out to 50,000 people, providing essential health services and treatments. We have treated over 10,000 patients, ensuring they receive the care they need to lead healthy lives. Additionally, we run 10 medical camps every week, bringing healthcare directly to those who need it most. These camps offer a range of services, from general check-ups to specialized medical care, making healthcare accessible and affordable.

Empowering Women and Skill Development

Empowerment through education and skill development is a cornerstone of our CSR strategy. We have successfully conducted skill development programs for 1,000 women, helping them gain the skills necessary to improve their livelihoods and achieve financial independence. Furthermore, we have provided computer training to 800 students, equipping them with essential digital skills that are crucial in today’s technology-driven world. Our participation in women empowerment programs, including our collaboration with the Haryana Police Department on International Women’s Day (March 8, 2022), underscores our commitment to promoting gender equality and empowering women to take on leadership roles in their communities.

Environmental Sustainability

Environmental sustainability is a critical aspect of our CSR efforts. We actively support plastic-free initiatives, contributing both financially and in-kind to various drives aimed at reducing plastic pollution. Our dedication to a cleaner environment is reflected in our continuous support for these initiatives, promoting sustainable practices within our communities.

Supporting Healthcare Facilities

We believe in strengthening healthcare infrastructure to ensure long-term benefits for society. We have donated eye cataract operation machines to charitable hospitals, enhancing their capacity to provide critical eye care services to those in need. Our support extends to Goshalas (cow shelters), recognizing their role in animal welfare and community support.

Infrastructure and Public Utility Development

Creating sustainable and functional public infrastructure is vital for community development. We have undertaken the construction of public utility facilities for common use, improving the quality of life for community members. Our adoption of the village “Kharindwa” in the Kurukshetra district of Haryana exemplifies our long-term commitment to community development. Over the past 15 years, we have implemented numerous initiatives in Kharindwa, including sanitation work, street light repair and maintenance, and the establishment of a dispensary, gym, sewing center, and tuition center. These efforts have significantly enhanced the living standards and opportunities available to the village residents.

Education and Community Support

We recognize the transformative power of education and strive to support educational institutions in every possible way. We have distributed free books, shoes, and fans to government schools, ensuring that students have the necessary resources to pursue their studies in a conducive learning environment. Our ongoing support for these schools reflects our belief in the importance of education for societal progress.

Our Vision for the Future

Looking ahead, we are committed to expanding our CSR initiatives to reach even more communities and make a broader impact. By focusing on health, empowerment, environmental sustainability, infrastructure development, and education, we aim to create a future where every individual has the opportunity to thrive. At Altruist, we believe that true success is measured not just by our business achievements, but by the positive change we bring to society.
